PostSubject: Where is there a bridge course for care-aide to LPN?    Thu 16 Sep 2010, 10:02 pm

Though I know that Care-aides are taking over LPN jobs at places here in abbotsford, I want to be an LPN because I dont necessarily want to work in a hospital.

SOO. Since its under 3,000 to be a care-aide I figured I would take that at UFV in chilliwack and then while working part time casual take a bridging program to LPN.

BUT IM HAVING PROBLEMS FINDING ONE!

I called Sprott shaw and they emailed me back and said they have one and its under a year. I checked with Norquest college in Alberta and there bridging program is TWO years. Go figure. But its direct learning so I could still work.

Im looking to see if anyone has either done one and knows where I could go or knows of one.

Im assuming these bridgeing programs are about 6 months. It wouldnt make sense for them to be a year. Because thats what the LPN program is for someone with NO experience. Question

Hey Sharee ,

Hi,when I was checking out where to do my LPN I came across a few bridges. There is a list on CLPNBC as well as checking out colleges individually. I know here on Vancouver Island there are 3/4 starting every other year in some cases as well as spring starts at other colleges. Are you committed to staying where you are for your LPN upgrade?I know for a fact that there are bridges throughout B.C from Terrace ,Okanagan , Smithers, etc etc.I chose to attend a year long rather than the access myself. As I said though CLPNBC has a list of every place that offers the course-both bridge as well as full length. Good luck with your path and choices!Keep us posted!

Sharee, there are bribge-in courses and are supported by HEU if you know the right people. If you want to continue your nursing career and would like to continue in nursing and get your degree in nursing, there is absolutely no assistance and in fact some push back from HEU staff. As you would no longer be a paying dues member, which is the number one priority of HEU; maintaining the dues, therefore the provincial office salaries.
