PostSubject: Vacouver Career College in Vancouver Good or Bad???   Thu 05 Aug 2010, 9:44 am

I am thinking about taking the LPN corse at Vancouver Career College, i know private schools aren't the best way to go but I don't want to waste any more time. Has anyone gone there personally and taken the course? Or know someone who has?
Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!

I am currently in the PN program at VCC and im totally understand how you feel and not wanting to waste anymore time! thats why i decided to go to this school, and honestly i dont recommend it! i have had such a horrible experience with this school! i dont want to tell you not to go to VCC because you may have a totally different experience, but some of my issues with the school are they are very unorganized, none of the teachers teach at the same level they all teach different and expect different things so when it comes to assignments or tests and quizes many of the questions are debatable because one teacher says one thing and another says something else! i mean for the amount we may for this program at this school its not worth it!!
those are just my 2 cents, I honestly and to the point where if i could drop out and get my tuition back i would!
please look in to it more though and got more opinions like i said this might just be a fluke bad experience for me and my classmates!

I agree with scooter. I have heard LOTS of bad things about VCC. I know some people who are going there right now and have nothing but bad things to say. Very unorganized, rude and unprofessional staff and instructors. I would look into it alot before going there. Smile

Are they at the Kelowna campus? The thing that urkes me is, that yes Government funded schools are the way to go. But with so many people applying and only so many seats there must be a couple private colleges that are well reconized, they can't all be bad... can they?

I see that this is a thread regarding Vancouver CAREER College, yet there seem to be some people refering to it as 'VCC' (Vancouver COMMUNITY College). I am concerned that with all of the discussion surrounding private vs. public education it may become murky when people are incorrectly referencing which school it is that they are talking about.

I graduated from VCC (Vancouver COMMUNITY College) yet I never refer to it as VCC for the reason that people may think that it is Vancouver CAREER College. It is a big pet peve of mine when 'VCC' is incorrectly used as it may be devaluing Vancouver COMMUNITY College's esteemed reputation.

Just my two cents... Very Happy

DONT GO!!

I was going to go myself but did my research. Its pretty much mostly negative of everyone who went there. I do know someone who went but she was teachers pet so that makes sense. If you are teachers pet you will pass.
Did you know its only 5000 to take the LPN through UFV in abbotsford?

Government regulated schools care if you pass. Private dont.

I am privee to information I can not share. However, Vancouver Career College has hired first rate clinical instructors in the last year. Make sure that any college that takes 20,000$ has competent, current and clinically capable instructors. Most private colleges do fine in the national exam.

If you discover that your instructors do not have a BC instructors certificate or ++experience, or a degree in nursing, your 20,000 needs a follow up letter from a lawyer.

You are responsible as a nurse to maintain competencies during and after you graduate from where ever.

You really do not need to run into someone like me, who has a duty to report and duty of care. We did are part to help cean up the instructors.

This is the first time I've heard negative feedbacks about VCC, but same with the thread starter I need to research more to verify things.

I am an LPN who went to Vancouver Career College 3 years ago. Although I do agree that it was very unorganized (at the time the Nursing program was brand new, we were the 2nd class to go through), I think that the education I received made me a great nurse who is fully confident with the skill set I gained there. In any nursing program you have your challenges, and the LPN program is extremely challenging, but dedication to it will get you far. I have never had a problem getting a job and started at three facilities after graduating and worked casual for 3 months before receiving a full time position. If this does not reflect that the education I recieved or where it was from was not good enough, I do not know what does.

How come LPN at UFV is $5000? It used to be double 10,000 in 08-09!

It is just over $10 000 for the LPN class at UFV, and they only offer it at the chilliwack campus, not abbotsford.
